1995 Plymouth Neon-ND
Phase III - The End of the Line For Me
Having had entirely too much fun building a car that kept
breaking every other day for a year and a half, I decided it
was time for it to be over. We pulled the last Turbo III engine
with ring failure out, and this time, with a MOPAR O2 sensor,
put a bone stock Turbo III engine in. I made the necessary changes
to put the car on 1991 Turbo III electronics (DIS) and made a
few other reliability changes. We still had serious cooling issues,
so we added a monstrous front oil cooler. Most people mistake
that large thing up front for an intercooler. It's not, but looks
really cool. I fixed up a lot of little things in the car (like
the power locks that stopped working, the cruise control, etc),
and got it so nice, it was hard to part with. But we did. In
the spring of 2000, a new owner came, and drove it home to Connecticut.
It seemed like then end of an era for all of us, the guys who
worked non-stop on this project for more than a year. It was
bittersweet for me. The other guys thought they would finally
get a break. heh. They didn't know I was already making plans
for the next project! Stay tuned for more on it!
